Marcel Ulysse André BOURAINE was born on August 5, 1886 in Pontoise.
​He was the son of Joseph BOURAINE (a telegraph employee) and Marie Aline Michel BRIAND.
​He had been a sculptor since he was 20; he was one of Joseph Alexandre FALGUIERE’s students and worked for RODIN.
​Incorporated into the 1st Engineer Regiment in October 1907, he joined the company in August 1914; his mission was to ensure the crossing of the Rhine. He disappeared on December 17 in Mametz (Pas de Calais) and was sent to a prisoner of war camp in Darmstadt, Germany.
